Dynamic Friction Tester(DF Tester)
ASTM:E-1911-98

Product Name

Dynamic Friction Tester(DF Tester)
ASTM:E-1911-98

Main Features

Measurement:

The DF Tester is designed to measure skid resistance values quickly with easy operation.
The slip−speed−friction curve (friction−speed relationship) is directly measured and provided in graphical and tabular formats.
The International Friction Index (IFI) is calculated using the DF Tester number at 20 kin/h.  The mean profile depth (MPD) is measured in accordance with ASTM Standard E2157−09 using the CT Meter.

Portable and Speedy Operation:

The DF tester is easily transported and operated using a van, truck or SUV.
Right after being connected to a vehicle for power, it quickly produces measurement results from area to area.
The measurement speed range is 15 to 80 kin/h.

Portable and speedy operationEasy to use

Easy to Use:

The DF Tester’s rubber sliders are easy to be replaced. The rubber compound used is the same material as the ASTM E501 and E524 tires to provide excellent independent performance.
The rubber slider wear gauge provides quick check of replacement timing.
A vehicle battery or 12 V DC power source can be used.  AC to DC power converter is also available.

Applicable Surface

Paved Road Surface, General Roads, Runway, Taxiing-ways, and other aviation surfaces
Paved Pedestrian Sidewalk, Bicycle Track
Laboratory surface samples

Measuring principle

Three rubber sliders are mounted on the lower surface of a disk that rotates with its plane parallel to the test surface.

Once the operator set and software controlled circumferencial speed is reached by the spinning disc, the control system initiates water delivery and lowers the spining disc to the test test surface.

The rubber sliders thus will be pressed to the surface by the weight of the device and the torque generated by the friction between the rubber sliders and the test surface as spinning disc is slowed down is measured.

The calculated force then is divided by the weight of the disk and motor assembly to calculate coefficient of friction.

The disk rotational velocity reduces gradually due to the friction between the sliders and the test surface.

The velocity is also measured to indicate the relationship between coefficient of friction and speed.
